Oh yeah, now I remember why I love climbing...

Description

At the end of almost every street that deadends into the Sandia foothills on the east side of town there is a collection of established boulder problems. The most popular of these is U-mound at the end of Copper. There are also a good collection of problema at the end of Indian School, the Tram Terminal and the Juan Tabo PG which is on the way up to the La Luz trailhead. I believe that there are also several problems developed in Lower La Cueva Canyon.

Getting There

Driving along Tramway Blvd, turn east and drie the roads till they end.

The Murray Highball climbs the portion of rock without lichen. Access via the low start can made through the chalked cobble visible in the lower portion of the photo

The Murray Highball V4  NM : Albuquerque Area Climbing : ... : Upper Mound (main upper clu...
This U-Mound classic is on par with The Manatee (in my opinion) but strangely, it sees far less traffic. Perhaps it's the really bad landing or hard to reach start? Either way, this is a must do. While it is definitely easier and not quite as tall as the The Manatee, it requires a different level of commitment and risk. Can also be linked via a low start on the arete which makes it a formidable hard line for those who have U-Mound dialed. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in NM
