Do you guys have any info on the fire that is going on now? I'm thinking of going to Upper Dream Canyon. I know part of Sugar Loaf Rd is closed

My partner is monitoring this situation for her work with local volunteer organizations and at this morning's briefing there was a request to limit traffic in Boulder Canyon since there will likely be a lot of different crews mobilizing and using that road. It's not an official closure of any sort (that I'm aware of) but I know I'd rather stay out of the way. Bit of a bummer as I was looking so forward to the shady side of the creek!

The most official info will probably come from Boulder Office of Emergency Management: boulderoem.com/emergency-st…. There's additional information and maps at bocovoad.org.

EDIT: as I was writing this the area encompassing Dream Canyon parking area became a "pre-evacuation area" basically meaning all the residents of that area are being told to prepare to evacuate because the fire could head that way. I would expect roads in that area will be closed to incoming traffic.

EDIT NUMERO DOS: The Incident Command for the fire has just released the following statement regarding traffic in BoCan: "Expect heavy fire traffic in the Nederland area today because of the‪#‎ColdSpringsFIre‬ Please stay out of the area and off the roads if you do not need to be here. FIre fighters and law enforcement thank you for your cooperation." You can follow incident command updates here: facebook.com/coldspringsfire/.

Boulder Canyon is closed at the Magnolia/Sugarloaf intersection at this time.

Fire was started by careless campers.

Fires around here plain suck.
As a climber I carry rope and protection, as a camper I carry shovel and water......
May containment be swift and safe.

i was in clear creek fighting the crowds at wall of the 90's but the smoke in Louisville is pretty bad. It looks like tis one will be pretty bad with all the dead threes. It sucks because it was started by some Alabama hikers

It sucks because people have lost their homes.

And obviously would still suck regardless of the state those campers came from.

There may be a lot of Ute, Paiute, Arapaho, and Cheyenne who have similar sentiments.

I remember my first fire. It didnt burn down a f*&^% forest.

Tards come to a pristine state by the masses and have no idea what theyre getting into. Its why I had to leave CO for UT. Sick of weed noobs and outdoor gumbies

This is definitely what is happening to CO right now. That is why I left the front range.

They weren't campers and they weren't hikers. They were homeless, previously convicted felons, that were living in the woods. Just google the second guys name to find out his past transgressions.

The "hikers" were transients and felons. One of them for the convicted rape of a 15 year old girl. Hope they get every single thing coming to them.

I was climbing at Avalon yesterday. Around 2:30 PM the road got eerily quiet. After not seeing any vehicles (aside from a lone Sheriff's Dept truck) for over 2 hours, it was pretty clear the entire canyon had been shut down to through traffic.

And Grog is just an internet tough guy. Pay him no attention.

Magnolia road is re-opened, Sugarloaf is re-opened, but Boulder Canyon is still closed above that junction to anyone except residents with ID.

Boulder Canyon is open.

We went to Mountain Rose/Frisky today. All crags seemed to be open, at least that far upstream.

You could see burned areas on the north side of the road, some pretty close to the highway.

Houses were right in the middle of burned areas, apparently untouched. Impressive firefighting work.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
