My favorite part of July and August climbing at Rumney may actually be jumping in the river afterwards. Are there any decent swimming opportunities close to Farley? I've eyeballed Millers River in a few places, but getting in looks like a particularly bad idea.
Agreed that swimming can be the best part of a climbing day around here in the summer. I've swum a bunch in the Miller's under the bridge at the overflow parking area. It's deep, fast moving, and has a sandy beach to dry off on. Sometimes people are fishing there, in which case I go a little further downstream.
No real good swimming close by. Many swim in the Millers however it is heavily polluted. It continues to get better but is still listed as impaired for fish consumption according to the latest data I saw.
the mormon hollow brook spot is a good sit n soak. Also the montague swimming hole at the end of north st is super tranquil and pretty popular. For Montague.
I second Laurel Lake. I lived in Orange and Athol in the 70's and 80's and it was highly suggested that people get a series of shots when they participated in their annual River Rat Race down the Miller River. Not a good choice for swimming.
