Description Suggest change

Emerald Point is the enormous mountain on the right visible from the Eagle Lake Trailhead. Near the bottom of the mountain, several steep South facing buttresses guard the 9187 foot summit. I'm guessing the buttresses start around 8000 feet.

Getting There Suggest change

Take the Eagle Lake Trail towards Eagle Lake. After a few minutes, the trail splits. Take the split on the right towards the Lookout / Vista. This trail dead-ends after a few switch backs at a small rounded summit with a good view. Leave the trail here and hike past the 90 Foot Wall. (The stream will be on your left hand side.) Follow a vague trail up the mountain side which traverses leftwards towards the cliffs. Expect a bit of manzanita bushwhacking on steep and sandy hillside. We encountered a 5th class gully near the base of the main buttresses. The approach may take about 2 hours.
