Description

The Electric Ocean is a north-facing crag where the rock quality and route quality varies from excellent to terrible. The somewhat long, by Poudre Canyon standards, 20 minute uphill approach contributes to the secluded feel of the crag, which has surprisingly good views to the northwest.

Getting There

Drive west up the Poudre Canyon to the first bridge after the tunnel. Park right before the bridge and find a cairn in the scree slope on the south side of the road. Follow a faint trail with some cairns up the scree slope and skirt around the right side of the cliff band. You will find a gully with a short climb with a two bolt anchor on the right side of the gully and a somewhat terraced cliff band on the left side of the gully. Follow the terraced band up to the cliff face and scramble to the right. You should now be right below Prometheus Rising, a striking overhanging crack. To the right is a fixed rope and the bulk of the climbing.

Follow a shallow corner to a good ledge. A hard to read sequence through hard to see holds will get you through another corner system to jugs, or one can traverse to the right side of the ledge and make big moves to the same jugs. After clipping the last bolt from underclings, head up and left. This has great movement and great rock. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in CO
