Eiger North and Northeast faces

Description 

What can be said about the Eiger? The rock quality (limestone) is notoriously terrible. The weather is notoriously terrible. The Norwand (north wall) is 6000 ft high. It is legendary among climbers. Every aspiring alpinist wants to climb it even if it is a pile of rubble.

Getting There 

The main town at the base is Grindelwald which is right up the road/tracks from Interlaken. The small hamlet of Grund at the base of the hill below Grindelwald has a great hostel used by climbers and it is right next to the cog railway station for the Jungfraujoch.

Classic alpine route. Spectacular climb with thousands of feet of exposure down either side of the ridge. We attempted the North Pillar but had to retreat off that due to running waterfalls.
