| I realize I am not the administrator, nor do I ever want to be the person responsible for quality control (is this actually possible on such an emmense public forum/database as this?), but after reading several route descriptions, it has come to my knowledge that people are posting route beta without having actually climbed the route, or posting beta loooong before they've climbed the route. Come on people, as participants in a sport that is inherently risky, we need to be intimate enough with a route before we post information so we can share meaningful, useful and correct information with climbers that rely on this website for area descriptions. In my eyes, a post by someone who's climbed the route holds more clout than a post based on second-hand knowledge, or having watched someone climb it.
So how can we be proactive enough so as to put an end to said behavior? Having sent the climb or not isn't the biggest demand, but please clmb the route before you post anything about it. Also, try to be objective when posting--including some personal/historical annecdotes act as sweet icing on the cake, but it shouldn't engulf the post: Accurate and succinct information trumps all. And finally, we are New Englanders with an honest-to-goodness work ethic; let's be true to ourselves, our collective conscience and those climbers we are helping out by posting information about routes we are stoked on! | |
