I couldn't agree more John. And the variety of cliffs and climbing styles in NH is what I love. But a good amount of people who climb today only have the means, or are content/only comfortable leading sport. And there just aren't to many places in NE were you have so many routes of such a wide range of difficulties that are sport protected. For better or worse those folks pretty much only have Rumney. |

I wonder what they pay for a gym. If all you need are some draws then a "standard NH rack" would be a little pricey.

| I agree with John.. Ward, Mark, Smitty, Jim etc etc put way more effort into conditions at Rumney than any Forest service person has. The trail work the forest folks did last year was extremely minimal and in an area that didnt even need it! ohh but it's a 30 second stroll from the parking lot so that works for them. Where are they when Mark wants to build a rock staircase up at Triple Corners or something.
They could save that $3/ person if the lazy ass forest guy checking everyones windshield didnt DRIVE around the parking lot in his F350 chewing 8mpg of gas and idling away. LNT pfft
Though i'd pay 20 bucks for that creepy bastard that stares at all the girls at the swimming hole to be locked up. More folks should call the police about him. Talk about a sleezeball |

| I concur with Kathy's position regarding the Gunks. It's important to note that my annual $85 bucks also helps pay the salary of the rangers who have been instrumental in assisting many injured climbers. I don't have a problem with paying a reasonable fee if I know that it will ultimately help preserve access and keep it open for future generations. |

| I don't have a problem paying at the Gunks either. It's private land and they do a TON with the money that they get. It's also put out in a yearly budget showing how much money came in.. how much and where it was spent to cover various things. If the forest folks want to start tracking the numbers and putting a bit of accountability then perhaps they will get some support.

| maybe they could settle on a "charge by car" basis at least, encouraging less cars is always a good thing. as long as the money doesnt go towards more missiles in the middle east whats a few bucks to climb in a sweet spot?
paying at the Gunks is no sweat at all, I believe we pay 120 a year for a family pass for 2, for me that works out to be about 3 bucks a visit. nice crappers and good parking is a nice thing, free camping reserved for climbers only is cool too. |

| Sorry bout my Gunks statement. Like I said I was shooting from the hip. I feel like that place is to commercialized for me, for lack of better words. I kind of prefer my climbing areas with out that many perks, all though the camping bit does sound nice.Just my opinion, next time I'll say it in a more user friendly way. |

The area, with no facilities, or services is my own county. I have no tax audit violations and they want me to pay a fee office in a complete other state! By the way, get away from my truck! NOT GUILTY! News as it develops, court date 4/13. |

They have this in (shudder) Boulder, for example on Flagstaff Road. If you want to boulder the super classic Flagstaff problems, you have to pay a fee if your car isn't Boulder County registration. |

Mobley, currently the Rumney fee is done on a per-car basis so it may be helping to reduce numbers. That being said, I can't imagine that $3 does much to encourage people to carpool.
Others, I've never quite understood the "I pay taxes" argument. It seems that we feel we're entitled to everything we want just because we've paid our taxes. And heaven forbid our money then isn't spent exactly the way we want it to be. Government spending will never be perfect so it seems like a cop out. Any any rate, at some point the money has to run out simply because we can't cover everything with the taxes we pay and we're going to have to start chipping in to those things we really care about. In a lot of ways I prefer it that way because then I can better target my spending. And yes, it would be nice to have an accounting of where every dollar goes in our government but historically it just doesn't seem practical. Hopefully efforts like usaspending.gov will continue to expand to give us a better picture.
One other thing, I think it's important to keep in mind that the fees apply to the entire WMNF and not just Rumney. For those that come up to the White Mountains regularly to hike or climb I really don't see that, even with the increased $40/year fee for two cars, we're being unduly burdened. Regardless it certainly doesn't seem that this discussion is likely to end any time soon... |

| All I have to say is that I pay my fee, I paid even when poor as hell and had no job. Gotta keep my Karma in check. Last time I was there I lost my phone and sure enough at the end of the day it was chilling in the keosk. See! Proof!
What I am trying to teach you all is pay the parking, then when you loose something it will be at the welcome sign. maybee if people were better about paying for parking, didnt throw trash next to the full compactor, and didn't clog up the roadm, this user fee could be kept in check.
