Are you working on a North East spot? You have me drooling over the New York section (used to climb @ the Gunks a lot, from NY) Now you need to have a New Hampshire section. Love it up there.

P.S. You should add a disclaimer that you are not responsible for lost time @ work because we are too busy looking at routes, completed ones and ones on the tick list!!

Future Goal

In the meantime, check out Northeast Ice. They do a good job covering the ice and mixed routes in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. If I remember correctly, there is also information on New York.

Harold,

If there's a particular climbing area in New Hampshire that you know a lot about, why don't you add it to the database? You can create a new area in the * In Progress section, then add routes to the area.

When the area gets populated with a reasonable number of routes, you can request that a New Hampshire area be added, and the climbing area will be moved from * In Progress to New Hampshire.

This is how the Gunks got started. It would be great if you would add some routes to the Gunks too.

Remember, MP.com depends on knowledgeable users to provide the content.

Greg,

I've got all the Gunks guidebooks; that's not the issue. What we need are people adding routes to this site.

To add a route:

1. Include accurate info on the first ascent(s), number of pitches and length of the climb. Using the guidebook for this is OK.

2. Write a brief introduction telling what's special or memorable about the route.

3. Tell how to get to the route. For routes in the Trapps: How do you find the access trail? How far is it from the Uberfall? From the East Trapps Connector Trail? At the cliff, how do you identify the start of the route? How far is it from a nearby well-known route?

4. Describe the route, pitch by pitch. You should have climbed the route and remembered it in sufficient detail (perhaps using the guidebook to jog your memory) to write a route description in your own words, not plagiarizing the guidebook. Include the difficulty and length of each pitch. Include info on variations to the main line.

5. Include your personal experience of the route; anything that's exciting or memorable.

6. Include any important info that's not in the guidebook.

7. Tell how to descend from the route (raps? walk off?)

8. Include anything special about the protection that's needed.

9. Include a good photo of the route or someone climbing the route.

10. Use the Spell Check button to ensure there are no typos in what you submit. Use proper grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.

If you have some favorite Gunks routes that aren't already on this site, please consider contributing them.

Look at existing Gunks route descriptions to see the format and content and model your submissions after them. Take a look at Thin Slabs Direct for an example.

Thanks,

Ron

I'll definitely add to the Gunks and start New Hampshire. Been to the NEICE site. I'll have to pull out some old photos.
Have to admit though things have changed at the Gunks since I have been there as far as access. The last time I was there one could camp on a road just before the hairpin turn, I believe that is gone now as they opened up a visitors house and a big parking lot. I think it also got more expensive as well.

Thanks for the info.
