Ladd setting up for the final moves

Lee,

It was a 12 year old boyscout, fell 40ft when getting on rappel up at Jimmy Cliff (or so I hear). He fell 40ft onto his belayer, who suffered no injuries, I know that the boyscout lived, but I don't know how he is doing.

wow...haha... that is so different from what i heard that its just funny to see how these stories transform.... like the game "telephone" where you wispier to the person next to you around the circle and the message changes...

so far I've from what I've heard the victim was 11, 12 or 13... male or female... broken back, massive head injury and or she was pretty much OK... he or she fell 40 or 60 feet... the climber was rappelling, threading anchors or following on TR.... but the belayer was OK in all stories...

these mixed theories come from a wide range of sources and id love to know what really happened though it looks unlikely that i will ever know....

thanks for your take on it Ladd...

Ha! I have heard a totally different version of the story. I heard it was a day camp, an 11 year old girl was climbing and an 11 year old girl was belaying. It was up at the hinterlands on that 5.7 slab off to the right. Apparently the guide told her clean the route, she didn't know what that meant ,so the instructer just told her to remove all the draws on the way up... apparently she unclipped the draws on the anchor too. She fell 40ft onto her belayer, and they were both totally fine, they both walked away alright. So that's what i've heard.

I got the story from my father, who read it in the paper, 3 days ago.

I guess you can't believe everything to read, but I think that is pretty reliable.

my friend rachel saw a picture of the climber being carried down on a back board...

i do some guiding for camps and no matter which story you go with it sounds like something crazy was going on as far as what these kids were doing...

Luckily the girl came away with just a lot of bruises and seems to be in good spirits from other things i've read.

props to the rescue guys and volunteers for getting a litter down from the Hinterlands.. that trail blows and that is good work.
