I have some folks who want to do some backpacking in the Daks, anyone have a suggestion of trails with nice campsites on it. I am game for a couple miles in/out.
I used to be an outdoor instructor in the 'daks and they're over six million acres. Where abouts are you going? Are you looking to hit peaks or just do some fun camping? Is it more of a backpacking trip or camping trip? If you give me specifics I can probably give you some good info.

Spiro - If you're not already on it, check out ADKForum.com - tons of info on hiking, backpacking, etc on there.
One quick recommendation (based on your 'couple miles' comment) - start at the ADK Loj, and hike past Marcy Dam and up towards Avalanche Lake.

Very good suggestion! Avalanche Lake is beautiful. Nice dayhike from there up Algonquin or Marcy (can't remember which, maybe both). Also some fine camping in the saddles between the high peaks if you don't mind carrying water.
I was camping in the Adirondacks last week. If you're looking for a moderate hike to a lean-to that could be considered a hub to several other trails and areas, I highly recomment Rock Pond Lean-to.
It sits right on Rock Pond (go figure), which you hike into by the entrance to Putnam pond. The hike in is about 2 miles, and mostly flat. The pond has areas for swimming, cliff jumping, and exploration.
If your fellow campers are into hiking, you can hike the several miles further to the Pharaoh Lake lean-tos. For something a little shorter, there's Treadway Mountain (about 3 miles from Rock Pond Lean-to).
If you'd like to camp a little further in, continue past the Rock Pond lean-to to Clear Pond lean-to. Both ponds are clean, clear, swimmable, and relatively leech-free. (I say relatively because I saw none, but a friend of mine saw 2 small ones. And that was on our 3rd day of camping).
I'd suggest getting a detailed topo of the area.
This is NOT high peaks region, so you know. But you CAN see the high peaks from both Treadway Mountain and Pharaoh Mountain. (FYI: the whole area is labeled the Pharaoh Mountain wilderness. There's also apparently climbing at Pharaoh Mountain too.)
