Drive By on an October Monday

Description

This cliff still hosts an amazing variety of grades with steep climbing on in-cut plates. The best part is that almost every line warrants 4 stars! Make sure to checkout Breakfast Burrito, Whip-Stocking and Check Your Grip.

New routes are still being added in the incredible amphitheater at the far right of the crag.

This crag initially named for its instant access. This was before the roads were closed by the oil companies. Regardless of the closure it is still a quick hike from the parking lot.

Getting There

From the Drive-By/ Bob Marley parking lot follow the road a bit farther and walk up a hill. The crag will sit on the left side of the road.

Kaleidescope 5.13c 8a+ 30 X- E7 7a  KY : Red River Gorge : ... : Drive-By Crag
Among the most distinct "lines" at the Red, Kaleidescope climbs the brilliant, arching arete feature at the far right end of the Drive By crag. The route offers two unique sections: technical reaches up monolithic, square-cut panels, followed by pumping slopers and slaps up the ever steepening arete. Ultimately pump-managment is the challenge here, and the last bolt is often skipped in a mad dash for the chains.Stick clip the first bolt and step off the boulder onto a mungy ledge. One of my favorite crags at the RRG. A lot of good routes, classic 10's, 11's, 12's, and reportedly 13's. If you only can make it to a few walls on your visit, then this one should top the list.
