DMM Viper 2 vs Renegade?

I'm looking at either the Viper 2 or Renegade 2

Does anyone here have any experience with either of these? They seem remarkably similar besides that the Renegade has 2 extra gear loops (though the loops themselves are smaller) and am wondering what makes the Renegade a "performance" harness while the Viper is a "starter" harness...

I used the original renegade for a full season and can vouch for the quality construction. It's a really nice comfortable harness and carries a lot. The sliding waist belt is a nice feature, but if your loaded down with gear or climbing the wide, it can move around on you a little bit. If your dead set on DMM I'd go with the renegade and I'm sure you'd be pleased. I've since switched to the Misty Mountain cadillac though and couldn't be happier. It carries better and is more comfortable. You may want to consider it if you haven't already, provided your using it for trad and you carry all your gear on your harness. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. To play devil's advocate, what features does the Renegade have that make it "better" than the Viper? I don't quite see it, personally and wonder if I'm overlooking something...

Two extra gear loops and wider padding for the lower back. That's it.

FWIW I'm pretty sure DMM doesn't make their harnesses, the Renegade/Viper/Puma/Vixen are awfully similar to the Ocun TwistTech, and the Maverick/Mithril/Venture/Vertesse are awfully similar to the Ocun EGO (see ocun.com/en/products/harnes…). Or it could be that both companies have them made by some mystery third party. I only bring it up because to me the TwistTech seems a bit better designed, with more conventionally-placed gear loops, and a haul loop. I don't know of any US vendor that sells it but you can get it here shop.epictv.com/en/harnesse…

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
