| The "Don't be a jerk" seems to work most of the time. Perhaps a "Vote Troll" button on the threads and if it passes a certain threshold of votes gets flagged and removed from the list on the front page? Kinda like the way the images rotate through?
{Feature request submitted in response to the utter ridiculous "Who Cares?" post right now in General.}
Or maybe an "Request to Kill Thread"? | FLAG |
By foodgeek Oct 2, 2009
| That has the potential the site to get taken over by a self-appointed clique of 'moderators'. The request to kill thread idea works well as long as the existing moderators aren't already overworked. | FLAG |

| There's a "flag" button that was put up in response to trolls. If a post gets enough votes (i.e. it's offensive enough), the admins take a look at it I reckon. In terms of feeding trolls, I think some of the responses can be pretty funny. If someone chooses to get in an argument with a troll, well all the better for the audience. Just because a thread is started by a troll doesn't mean that worthwhile posts don't appear in it; there's always the option to not click on threads you don't like and avoid reading posts by people you feel are trolls.

| Wouldn't it be easier and more effective to ignore the troll? | FLAG |
By Eric_Dacus Oct 2, 2009
| The idea was simply to have an avenue to get "troll-ish" threads off the main page, and I suppose the "flag" is a good solution for nuking actually offensive threads (rather than bogging the admins down with drivel). | FLAG |

It's true. I was writing about MP.com in particular.

See this thread for an example of a troll.
It's generally an anonymous post that's put up with the sole intention of riling people up to elicit interesting responses.

| Some people just want to control and censor everything. They can't deal with the scattershot chaos of the hinternet. Personally I think the mp.com forums are intellectually boring, and filled with a lot of whining and self-righteous indignation. The more chaos and trolling the better.
So, regarding the OP, I vote NO WAY.
PS- It's funny how the general sentiment is to blame the troll itself, rather than the control freaks who can't take a joke and feed the troll | FLAG |
