Ive never been and know nothing about the country in regards to climbing, but I have a chance to go if I could find a partner. I have heard there is descent climbing.

I could bring a rope, draws, and other gear as necessary. I lead up to 6B sport, and I speak spanish.

Anyone interested or that could provide any info?

Chris

Paul Laperriere, a climber form Quebec has been developing some crags around vinales for quite some time. He has a page on his site about cuba with links to other usefull websites (sorry french only) ecole-escalade.com/cuba.
Hope it can help!

I went last winter my 2 cents
-Buy the guide book (cubaclimbing.com) all the pertinent info is thete
-Climbing is centered around Vinales accommodations and partners are easy to find, very easy to travel alone
-budget was about 20-25 dollars a day IN VINALES
-BE WARY OF BAD BOLTS all the stuff walking distance from town seemed fine, anywhere else was iffy.
-better yet bring a bolt gun and bolts to revive some of those lost classics

Cuba is awesome, I would return without hesitation. Feel free to pm me with any questions

Ditto what Jackson says. There's a climbing community down there but it's a poor country, gear is all imported and very expensive to them. I was there 6 years ago and no one was bolting because "the" drill was broken. There might have only been two in Vinales.
Many people leave a rope or some gear down there after their trip, donate it to locals. I contacted the author of the climbingcuba guidebook and took a bunch of kids climbing shoes down there for him, I think his email is in back of book.
The homestay situation is awesome, don't even think of a hotel. You'll be with real Cubans, have some interesting conversations and they'll do your meals for you. And the music and dancing in the club in town is definitely worth checking out. Us Gringos can't swivel the hips like Cubans!

In the end I wasn't able to swing the trip. It will stay on my list of future climbing destinations

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
