Whats the Corvallis climbing scene like? I know its about 3 hours to Smith. Its western Oregon so lots of rainy days. I don't mind climbing indoors during the winter, but do other people climb there? How about trail running, biking, skiing?

I moved from Montana to the Willamette this last year and if climbing is the center of your life I couldn't recommend it. Feels like exile out here. There is some really neat climbing in the area like Moolack for the summer months. Winter is the definition of dismal.

Corvallis seems like a pretty cool town though!

Before there were the indoor gyms we used to builder. There are some great problems on campus. Otherwise it sucks, especially if you do not have a car

I live in Lebanon, about 20 min East from Corvallis. There really isn't much of note west of Corvallis. Druid Boulders has some ok problems, and there are a few easy sport routes scattered around Mary's Peak.
You can go down to Eugene and do laps on The Columns for an afternoon session.
Garden Boulders has some great bouldering, about 40 min east in Sweet Home.
There are some great new sport areas in development near Sweet Home, but the majority of the lines going up are 5.11 or harder. Potential for shorter, easy lines though if someone wanted to put the time in.
Biking is around in the Corvallis area. Alesa Falls mountain bike trails are awesome and only about 25 min from Corvallis.

I live in Corvallis. There are two gyms at OSU that are okay. There is some climbing in the area, but not much. The druid boulders are in a pretty nice setting near the top of Mary's peak. There is a ton of really really good mtb all over the place. Alsea falls, Mary's Peak, Mac Forest. Everything from good beginner trails to very challenging trails. I also enjoy the trail running.

Winter sucks, it sucks a lot. But fortunately it is very short. Day trips to Smith are doable and there is a descent amount of other climbing areas too.

Thanks for the input. I figured winter would be rough, but I'm usually in ski mode in winter months, and as long as the beer is good, I'm ok. I lived in Bend for 5 years a while ago but unfortunately the job market there isn't so hot for my wife. Really just looking to get back to the PNW and although I've never considered Corvallis before, the quality of life doesn't seem too bad.
