Hi folks. I'm thinking of leaving the cams behind and just bringing the draws along on a road trip. Is Shelf road the only warm sport area within a not TOO far away's drive? I wouldn't mind going maybe six hours. Thoughts?

Within that distance you could also go to Rifle or Spearfish Canyon up in SD....might want to check the weather first but it is probably pretty nice.

The SUNSHINE wall in Spearfish Canyon is EXCELLENT this time of year. Might be a foot of snow 10 feet from the base of the routes... but the wall will be CLEAR and WARM!

Day trip to Castlewood or Red Rock Canyon Open Space, Devils Head will be open in about 3-4 weeks (depending on when the USFS opens the road).
Penetente is about 4 hours from Boulder. All this wind makes me hesitant to think of heading north, but I DEFINITELY plan on a Spearfish trip this Summer.

What about Boulder Canyon. Lots of sport climbing there... Just find a south facing crag.

You could also check out 10 sleep if the snow is gone. Same with Lime Creek. Penatente is actually about 5 hours, but well worth the drive if you've got 2-3 days to kill. Make sure you reserve a camping spot if it's a holiday weekend. I believe they also have some mixed there, or just straight up trad lines if you still want to bring the gear.
