Well, it appears that the relocation is going into full effect... After moving from Boulder about 12 years ago we are pretty sure we will be moving back to the Denver area this spring-summer... Anyone want to chime in on living locations? Pro's Con's. Etc, etc. Any and all other beta excepted. My wife will be working in the downtown Denver area...I am going to be job hunting... So being some-what close to work and more importantly close to climbing will be important. (I guess all the climbing will be closer than it is here in Atlanta...) Also, I will be hitting some of y'all up for climbing partners come this spring/summer... Thanks.

You'd better be squeezing in those last days at the T-wall. Never know when you might be able to get back...

Beer Anyone?

Jeff, is it me or do you sound disappointed? I hope not, change is good and often fun.

I'm sure the locals will "cook" you up some good advise. In the meantime, good luck with the changes.

Susan,

Disappointed? No, not at all. I agree change is good and we are looking forward to it. We have accumulated to much clutter over the last 7 years in Atlanta....

Pitch 7

Hi Jeff,

My wife (Rae) and I moved here about 6 years ago and lived downtown for a couple of years while figuring out where to live. She also works downtown and wanted to be sure that commuting to work wasn't going to be drama so that was one of the considerations.

We settled on living on SW side of town in Littleton (which is actually closer to Lakewood than Littleton. (Basically the corner of US285 and C470, about four miles from Morrison) I can bike there along bike paths so that isn't too bad.

We ski a lot so we wanted some place that was easy to get out of town as well. I can be the South Platte, places like Cathedral group in 35 to 40 minutes. Pine quicker. Breckenridge takes us 1hr 15 minutes as long as there are no wrecks, etc.

Golden was our first choice, but at the time of trying to find a place we couldn't find a place that fitted our budget and we wouldn't have to pour a lot of time and money into it. In an earlier life we fixed up old houses and we know what's involved.

Golden has fantastic access to crags and the commute into town along 6th ave isn't too bad if start work early. If you are working 9 to 5 it would suck. Also with the new Clear Creek Guidebook out, you're have lots of new routes to do! Good mountain biking close at hand as well.

If Golden isn't an option, then I would check out SW side of town.

Good luck with your move.

Cheers

John

John, thanks for the reply. I think we will plan on renting until we figure out where we want to be. Littleton sounds like a good option though. So does Golden. We were also thinking SW Denver area as well.

Any other thoughts?

If you don't have kids, I would suggest the initial rental be in the Highlands neighborhood, just west of downtown. Your wife will be close to work, and its fairly lively around there. Walk across the new pedestrian bridge over I-25 to the Platte Valley area,(rentals there too, actually) and you've got decent cafes, coffee houses, bars, and Wilderness Exchange for gear. Also, trips to just about anywhere in the Front Range are quick as you are kinda of in the center of the wheel.

If you are targeting the suburbs, aim for being close to a Light Rail line for you're wife's commute. If you end up in (God forbid) Westminster, just remember to speak a little more slowly.....

MP member Cindy Mitchell is in real estate in the Littleton area.
