Ok...its a total longshot, but does anyone know who did the FA of the West face of the Gigantor boulder at Green Mountain (or what it is actually named). (See photo) It has some old pins, but no one I know has any info on it.

Thanks

The route is called Gigantor Roof 5.12a***. Bob Horan FA on rope and 2nd ascent sans the rope bouldering style (V4). Jug haul with poor feet and is often seeping. Good job finding it as it is a bugger of a boulder to locate. Note: this route is closed along with all of the Sacred Cliffs until Aug. 1st for an eagle on Ridge 2, over 1/2 mile away on the opposite side of the cliffline. There is a good V7 on the south face, just right of this route that is also not as tall.

Based on the closure info available on the Open Space website, the gigantor looks open. (see image below) I will call them today to see what the story is. Thanks for the beta and letting me know that it might be closed.

Sacred Cliffs Raptor closure

Jason,

I talked to the folks at the ranger cottage and they said the Gigantor was open. However, after looking around some more on the Boulder OSMP website, I found a list of climbs that are affected by the seasonal closures and off trail permit system.

The Gigantor boulder is in fact part of the seasonal closure, as you suggested. I have a feeling the people we talked to at the ranger cottage were probably not familiar with all the climbing routes and because the boulder appears to be outside the closure area on the map, the assumed it was open.

According to the route list on their website, other Green Mountain bouldering, such as the Hobbit block, arrowhead and similar rocks are also a part of the closure, while the Butter Maroon, Blarn stones and various other boulders farther north are not affected by the closure, but may be subject to an off trail permit requirement.

Thanks so much for letting me know about the closure. Here is a link to various climbing routes in the flatirons that are affected by either the permit system or the seasonal closures:
