Well, with all the new routes you and your pals have been putting up, we definitely need a new guide book. I think the stuff you've been doing at Animal World is awesome. Looking forward to it.

That's great to hear Bob! How comprehensive will this book be? All 1600+ routes, or just sport or what? Is it going to be in color? Good luck with the book.

Congratulations - That's quite an undertaking!

I think it will be the size of the Denver Yellow Pages - do you think some of those skinny sport types will even be able to pick it up?

I heard a rumor that it is a 'best of' type of book. Please say it isn't so... a complete book (though no book is ever complete) would be nice to have.

The book will cover all cliffs and boulders in the Canyon but not ever route.

Trying to do a book like this should be fun (ha ha).

It going to be all colors with lots of great actions shots and clean topos.

I thinking somewhere in the 200-250 page range.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Tim or anyone else...if you need any beta on the new routes just contact me.

Sounds great Bob. I'll see if I can get some good pics of Tonerre tower this summer for you. I really love that crag.

One thing to mention. If you decide to put adverts in the middle of the book, I will personally be less likely to buy it.

cheers.

Bob,

I dunno.......are you sure that guidebooks are still relevant? Are you sure you want to go to all that trouble just for the sake of fame and fortune?

Maybe just create a website with the site name "BLDRCYNCLMBS.com and charge for the new information.

I think guidebooks are way over-rated........ unless they have lots of ads of scantily-clad women in them. Then you might sell more!! LOL!

Good luck on your project. Let me know if you want a partner to help you collect beta.

So, out of curiosity, what type of routes won't be included... and, how come?

Avery...I just don't have he time to try and track down people to find a obscure route that maybe won't ever get climbed again.

I'm trying to do balance of a best of book and complete book...with quality photos, good directions and topos.

It is being published by Kevin Daniels at Fixe USA as I'm not working with Falcon so I can have better control over the book.

I'll also make more money. I'm thinking this book might get me over the edge and let me retire. :)

As to advers in the book...I'm selling only six pages of it and I think Neptune's wants the inside cover.

Inside covers and back of table of contents and etc- OK. In meat of text and on info pages = yuck.

agreed... personally I don't mind "Gear & Climbing ONLY" ads, I understand the need & support their presence. Don't appreciate it in the way of why I bought the book = route info.

(...or if it must be there, place it back-to-back with another ad, that way I can eliminate the page entirely :)

It's a good thing you found someone to help publish the guide and give you a better cut of the sales. It's a drag when someone like Falcon marginalizes the book with micromanagement and then takes more coin than they deserve.

Please please make this book way more durable then the two thin guides (I believe they are called something like "sport climbs boulder canyon, vol.1 and 2) that are currently out now. Those books have to be the absolute worst books to even consider bringing outdoors. Both of mine fell apart in less than 72 hours, before I could even get them out to the cliff! Shotty binding at best!

Go to the Fixe USA website and you will see the quality books that Kevin puts out.

This book will be worth every penny of the $100 dollars that we are charging.

Good luck Bob, I know you've been working on it for a long time. I'm impressed if you can squeeze 1500 routes into 250pages. A comprehensive book would be quite the undertaking, but I always view select guides as a slippery slope - how does one determine if a climb is worthy or to say that no one else will want to climb it again? It also leaves room for someone to try and do a more comprehensive book like you besting Rolofoson or...like Jim Beissel after asking about all these obscure routes lately (Just kidding JB). Again, best of luck to you bob.

Kirra...when its all said and done...maybe 20-30 cents an hour for my time. :)
