| Climbers preparing to come to Tensleep this summer have recently found this posting online connected to the myspace page of Mike Decker, a resident of Worland, written last week on Wednesday, May 21, 2008:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&frien>>>>>
(he has since removed it)
Its scary and it is a direct threat of violence against the canyon's bolters.
he is mentally ill and has written openly about his battle with depression on the same myspace page. His extreme anger with the numbers of climbers arriving this summer, and the new guidebook he does not know is out, combined with his open "declaration of war" and his previous criminal record and mental health history make extreme violence to the canyon's bolters a possibilty.
Rumor has it that this year will be the 10th annual (informal) climbers festival, with a new guide book out on the canyon. This guy is going to flip his shit when he sees that.
In 2006 Mike attacked 2 bolters he knew and was charged with battery.
He has also chopped a dozen routes (2006)
All this coupled with threats like:
"the war begins. first i had to deal with stan (price),but that was easy cause he just hid from me.or should i say guilt can fuck weak minded souls like his!AARON HUEY,that was easy just threatened to beat his fucking ass and he went of hiding and left his friends here!ALLI RAINEY,MATT WENDLING,MIKE SNIDER and all the fucking waste that associate with these people.they took til 2006 to get out of here!and these people are not welcome here and are very brave if they return!just ask that fake bitch alli rainey, bring up my name and watch her turn white:)"
"you yuppie sellout fucks just stay the FUCK OUT! or i will come pay you a fucking visit and you will leave soon after! the war continues."
on Dec 4, 2007 he also wrote (several entries down the page):
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&fr>>>>>
"then the day came, they were sucking some dick in the parking area.they seen me i turned around and ive never seen people run so fast, but i caught them.I fucking verbally fucked them and gave matt a little baby shot to the sternum, which caused him to fly through the air.he runs and leaves his own wife to be verbaly mind fucked by me.i would never touch a women, the mouth works fine.
well I got a breach of peace and battery for that one,the judge told me i should have kicked his ass cause its all battery anyhow.but this isnt over matt wendling still is going to get what he has coming from me,i wont make the same mistake again.YOUR FUCKED WENDLING!!
the moral of the story is dont come to tensleep canyon and fuck the guy who has been here for 13 years. If you want beta i will give it,but i better not find it in a guide or the internet."
The moral of the story is DO COME TO TENSLEEP this guy is all talk. he hides in the lower canyon and very few people ever see him. Coming in large numbers to enjoy the climbing is the only way to win.
The rock is just too good to retreat!

| Better go talk with the sheriff. It sounds like he already committed assault and there were witnesses. Better yet, he describes hitting that one guy in the sternum. Those people should file charges. Get the ball rolling. | |

| At least he picked a fitting username. | |
By John Langston Jun 2, 2008
| It sounds like he's easy to find and that he frequently is there alone.
Assuming he's unarmed, you should all just tackle him and handcuff him to a tree while you go climb. Once you return, tell him you'll let him go if he agrees to play nice. If not, walk away and give him another day to think it over.
I wouldn't do much with the cops in the area. I can't imagine they would do anything significant unless he actually murdered someone. This is definitely a part of the world that doesn't look for warning signs before violence.

| Being from New England this story reminds me somewhat of Ken Nichols & his vigilante chopping tactics. Over time locals became more organized & engaged local municipalities/landowners/police/etc in stopping Ken once & for all. You may want to contact the Western Mass Climbers Coalition for information on how they went about the process. I know a LOT of effort was put in by a LOT of people to get it done.
I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to get officials on your side if this guy is openly threatening people & climbing areas on the Internet & already has a record of assaulting people.

It's also key when forming a posse.
Seriously though, I'd find it hard to believe that the local DA wouldn't at have an interest in the violent and threatening rants.

I kind of doubt it ever made it that far.

| Why delete your post grappler? I was about to refer some friends who are traveling to Tensleep to your post. Now I can't. | |
By kirra Jun 2, 2008
| hmmm... interesting
my "history" link to the myspace article prior posted has now been set to "private" - and no longer allowed to view the f'n profanity rant
grappler have you been personally threatened..?
By grappler From Fort Collins, CO Jun 3, 2008
| the guy has pulled his myspace page
and I am realizing that if I scare people away from traveling here then the psycho wins.
its a tricky situation. the solution is getting alot of people to go to the area, not scaring them away.
he's all talk, very scary talk, but still just talk.
sheriff said that the online threats were not specific enough.
By Tim Stich From Colorado Springs, Colorado Jun 3, 2008
| Well now that he pulled his page, the incriminating evidence of the assault is gone. And you of course deleted the copy in the first post. All in all, not a very good start.
The guy punches someone in the sternum and that's not enough? That's assault. Period. The guy that got punched should press charges, especially since he had witnesses. Of course if everyone wants to just forget about it, that's their choice. At that point no one can complain anymore.
By Tradster Jun 3, 2008
| Maybe when he punched the guy, a trad rack down his throat would have been appropriate. Perhaps he should have received a little lesson right then in personal space reality. | |

| So what happened?? I am confused, could someone fill me in on what happened? | |
By grappler From Fort Collins, CO Jun 3, 2008
| I saved a screen shot of the original myspace page when it was forwarded to me that has all text. And I know that at least one bolter has now begun paper work for a restraining order. Question is will it spiral out of control? | |
By grappler From Fort Collins, CO Jun 3, 2008
| The guy that got punched in 2006 did press charges and they stuck. Battery and disturbing the peace.
No incidents since then except for these his internet rants about having successfully cleared the canyon of "outsiders"
By kirra Jun 3, 2008
| grappler thanks for coming back and following up. Interesting he pulled his page, do you think he follows these forums ..?
what's it to hurt if you put your personal post back up at least to alert folks like Bill who are now wondering wtf..? It's good to alert everyone of the situation. I had planned to take a trip up there before knowing this and I'll still go but it's good info to be aware of
re something "spiraling out of control" - Sounds like this guy is extremely emotional and fixed in his position. Unfortunately it may have to come to that unless someone can reason with him to cool him down ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- edit ~ thanks for re-posting grappler :)

Good. You left that out of your original post. So did Mike have to pay any fines? Jail time? Community service?
By grappler From Fort Collins, CO Jun 3, 2008
| not sure.
he knows now that he can get caught so hopefully thats enough to keep him in hiding.

| you know this is par for the course.. I finally decide to visit Tensleep this summer after knowing about it for almost 20 years and some psycho is running rampant there. lovesic paranoid schyzos weren't on the itinerary, for crying out loud.. lmao one word is really coming to mind

| I grew up in Cheyenne. Now quite deep Wyoming but Wyoming non-the-less.
There was a local murder, a former bodybuilder had been stalking and threatening his ex for a long long time. Calls to the cops did nothing because he'd not actually laid a hand on her.
He shot her in cold blood at a store one day. If I remember correctly he then shot himself.
When they looked back at the history, it was painfully obvious that every warning sign was there, had been for a long time, and this was nothing more than the next logical step.
I posted my handcuff him to tree comment half jokingly, but I'm quite sure that until this guy goes off and kills or severely injures someone, the police will do nothing.
I don't climb at tensleep and probably never will. It's not my style. I guess that also means it's not my problem. Still, to those of you going there, you should be prepared to fully deal with person outside of the law should it become necessary. A can of bear spray should be more than adequate.
