| Good job Darren! Although I have not published a book I know with living through Lauri's book that it is a lot of work and not over tell the books are on the shelves. | |

| Congratulations on the new guide book. I'm looking forward to picking it up after the weekend. Do you know what the retail price will be?
Hopefully someone will do a review and post it up on mp.com for us.
So, what's the next project ... South Platte?
By Darren Mabe From Goulden, CO Feb 7, 2008
| Thanks everyone. I think you will find it useful and entertaining, to say the least. I would love feedback, since its my first guide.
Retail price is $28.
check with the shops to see their lead time.
labor of love, huh, i would say that is about right. broke ground on the guide in 2005, although i have "researched" that canyon since '98. last time i checked, total route count for the book is almost 450.
oh and john, regarding a platte guide. seed has been planted. albeit, in deep soil. ;) kevin, what are you doin the next few years?

Hahah...I have thought about it sometimes, but more about a miniguide to a specific area, but most likely that would lead to me being shunned by most of my partners. A couple of years is more like 5 years full time if you wanted to really do it justice. Plus the thing would be the size of S. Greens Rock Climbing Colorado!
BTW I went by Neptune's today and it seems that the store copy is already missing, most likely confiscated by an employee who was going climbing.

| Good effort, Darren. Thank you for the contribution. | |

| Right on, Darren. Congrats. I know you've been waiting and working a long time on this. It pays off in the end. | |

If you live to be hundred.

| Bob - You've been pretty humorous lately and have made me chuckle quite a bit. I thought your comment (this site-different post) regarding offwidth technique was right on, and in regards to a guidebook paying off if you live to be one hundred - priceless! | |

| Thanks Tom...trying to keep it light. I always enjoy your sense of humor. Hope all is well?
Nice cover Darren. | |

| This is Darren's publisher. We're super psyched on the book and it exceeded our expectations. You can now check out a downloadable PDF sample of the book at: www.sharpendbooks.com. If you're as eager for the book as we are, you can pre-order it and we'll ship it out the day it arrives (Mention Mountain Project in the Special Notes section of the order form and you'll get free shipping!).
PS. That's 60-year-old Jim Logan on the cover, redpointing Sonic Youth 41 years after he aided that wall!

I used to have issue with the Hubbel guide to the Splatte because it was so flawed.
Then I climbed more there and have forgiven any errors.
To write a comprehensive book on the splatte would be like writing a comprehensive book on space. All of it.

| Looks great Darren. Went into Neptune's and Dan Hare let me take a quick look. Great photos, glossy pages, and a fun layout. And you didn't go too crazy w/ the downgrading -- which is cool. Nice work! | |

| Just scooped a peek at the book at Wilderness Exchange. Killer. The only word needed to describe it. Incredible pics and good descriptions, nice glossy pages, the way a guide book should be. This actually gets me really pumped for the "canyon", Great Job Darren. | |

anyone that has spent a significant time in the platte would understand the effort that Pete paved. Maybe the platte is better off as a wild, intriguing, and mystical adventure.
Dane Peterson wrote: the way a guide book should be quite a compliment, thank you. Fred, Heidi, and Crusher would love to hear that too!

| friggin right on with the Splatte.
Darren, any plans (or objections) to work further on the Creekside routes? save for such a crappy cragname, -- positions, movements, & rock quality, established as mixed; I think it's one of the best, sporty but still gives the climber a good Eldo feel.
