I've seen this truck in CCC a few times, both winter and summer. Basically it is between an 84 and 87 Toyota 4wd. And it's in motherf*cking showroom condition.

I'm seriously jealous. Very very jealous. I'd rather have that than a new Tacoma.

Anyway dude, if you're reading this, I'm planning to fix the body damage and rust on my 87' along with new paint this summer and I would love to hear how you tamed the rust. Your fenders look real too, mine are already bondo, I was going to cut them off and put bolt on plastic aftermarket fenders. Maybe there's a better way?

I always used galvanized aluminum, black tar, and pop-rivets to "hide" the rust in my '86 Nissan. God, I miss Bessy. I say forget the looks, and enjoy the ride!

I've only owned Toyotas, and they have never failed me on lonely desert dirt roads. What great vehicles! You can torture the heck out of them, and they'll still save your ass. Everytime I see a handsome, custom Toyota truck, I have to stop, and stare.

Where have you guys been driving your trucks to get such rust? My 2000 Nissan Frontier doesn't have any rust at all.

I don't know, 2000 was the last year for the Frontier where I like the styling. After that they looked like something out of Star Trek: The Next Body Iteration. I was either going to get a Nissan or a Toyota back in the day.

Now I have to ask, wtf happened with Tacomas and other pick-ups today? It's like they got supersized. My truck, and by the looks of it Darren's, is compact, narrow, and able to fit in tight spaces. The newer trucks are more towards the full-size end. You can't get these little trucks anymore. Pffffft.

No, I mean the Tacoma. It looks a lot wider than the old SR5s. The Forerunner is super fat now, too.

I had an 89 Niss hardbody xcab that took some serious beatings and drove me across country and all points between not once but twice (never left me stranded) - 172k miles. . . and then I traded it in on a 98 Frontier. . . oops. Sold the Frontier 3 years later.

There's a cherry 85 'Yota in LaPorte (Ft. Collins) with a small lift, a cap, new 31 At's and a nearly perfect paint and interior - $6300.obo Truck is very, very nice (if you're interested let me know and I'll send you his number).

Shame on Toyota for succumbing to Detroit's bigger is better fixation. Check out the bed on the new Tacomas: It's all plastic and looks like it will be ruined the first time you throw in a load of logs or a drum full of hydraulic oil?

It would probably cost 15K total.

I want an 87 or so 4x4 Xtra Cab sr5 with the longbed.

Then I'd throw in a diesel engine and fix the body to immaculate. I've seen it done very well on Landcruisers so I bet it could be done on a pickup.

My buddy swapped his 76' Landcruiser to diesel, put 36" tires on it, planetary axles, and painted it (with bedliner). At his absolute lowest point, he had 18" of clearance. He took it from Wyoming to Alaska and back and got about 25mpg on it.

Has anyone looked into the eco-footprint of new cars vs. driving old cars? If I understand correctly a 1980 Ramcharger with an oil leak produces less total polution than a new Prius.

Another of my old 55. The guy that bought it from me put a Cummins diesel in it and fixed it up real nice. He claims it gets 24 mpg.
