Looking south to Whale Dome. Beluga goes straight ...

Getting There

The shortest way to reach Whale Dome is from the west side of the South Fork of the South Platte River. Follow directions to Sheep Rock/Helens Dome and then turn right on FR 211 to Goose Creek Campground. From the bridge at Goose Creek campground drive almost 3.6 miles west to a pullout on the left side of the road at a yellow no motorized vehicle sign...park here. Walk south through the burn area staying out of the drainage on the east and below the ridge on the west. After about a mile you should reach an open area (slab) with great views of Sunshine Dome, Whale Dome and Big Rock. Continue down on a horse trail staying left of Whale Dome and then cut west to the north face.

Description

Cool summer climbing on the north face with lots of potential for new hard and easy slab routes. Secluded climbing with great views of Sunshine Dome, Big Rock, Sheep Rock and other unnamed domes and cliffs.

On the approach the dome resembles a huge humpback whale.
