This is a somewhat obscure area of the South Platte within the Top of the World area. The older Hubbel guide with its picture probably was the main enticement to explore around these parts. Amazing what a photo can do. There are some small, very interesting looking formations in the area. Approaches have changed a bit with the road closures.
Getting There
Top Of The World is off of CO Hwy 126 just past the town of Buffalo Creek. Park along the hwy 2.6 miles South East of Buffalo and walk up Fire Road 538 going left at the junction after 1.7 miles, the right hand road is signed and leads to Top Of The World Campground (closed). Continue on the main road for another 1.8 miles to the old parking area, cross a fence and follow trails to Chair Rocks.
Per Jeremy Hakes: We found biking to be the most efficient way to get there. The FR is in great shape, and took only 25 minutes each way to get to/from Chair Rocks. It measured exactly 4 miles from the locked gate to the bottom of the formations.

People were climbing at Chair Rocks before Redguard Route was done in Eldo. From my research at the old CMC library, it seems people were much more interested in bagging technical summits than canyon walls during the fifties.

I'm still interested in bagging those tech summits. :) Big Rock Candy Mountain is my next prize, although I don't know if I can do it. I'd also like to get The Turret and North & South Noddle Heads.
