Mount Morrison

Description 

Mount Morrison is the tall hump of slag just to the west of Red Rocks amphitheatre. It officially is in Red Rocks Park. Back in the 1890s there was a funicular railway to the top of Mt. Morrison, and people would come all the way out from Denver to have a picnic at the top. Although Mt. Morrison isn't a rock climbing destination, it is a fine after work pump for your legs and lungs and has some excellent scrambling. The view from the summit is great, with city-scapes to the east and the splendor of the Front Range spread out before you to the west. Often you will spot the resident herd of deer or the local Golden Eagle as he soars. Mt. Morrison can be climbed all year round. Beware of rattlesnakes in the high summer.

Getting There 

Find your way to Red Rocks Park near Morrison. Head either north from the town of Morrison on the Hogback Rd. or south from Golden on the Heritage Rd. Make your way up to the top parking lot. If there is a concert at the amphitheatre parking can be a problem.
