BETA PHOTO: Dry Creek.

Description

The Dry Creek climbing area over looks Dry Creek Basin East of Montrose. Lots of route possibilities, some bolted with bolted anchors some not. It is all sandstone and can be hard to protect for trad climbing, but a good place if you're in the area and not feeling up to the Black Canyon.

Getting There

Head East [West?] out of Montrose on E Main Street which then turns into Spring Creek Rd. After a few miles, turn right on 5875 Rd. Follow that until you get to Kiowa Rd and turn left. At Shavano Valley Rd turn left. Go a little ways until you see a parking area, turn there onto rim road. Follow Rim road for a few miles, nothing is marked out here. You'll see a road that follows the power lines, pass that and take the next largish road that is a right turn and follow this to the rim. The road is rough and you'll probably want 4WD or at least something with high clearance.

The directions to Dry Creek are okay, but the first line should say, "head west" out of Montrose on Spring Creek road, not east. Also, the Google map "A" symbol is about a mile south of the actual crag.
