See? I was right, that was Jack's dog. Looks like John P. in the shadow and Scotty way in the back. I'm thinking that guy with the short hair is the guy that came over from France and they did the enclosure couloir on the Grand with....am I totally off?
Les Choi, haven't thought about him for about 30yrs! Last time I saw him was at a house up the valley (towards chimney rock) from Newberry's store where he was living with "Frank the Tree". I think he played banjo for us that night. The next day I went with Jeff Conley and Scotty Gilbert to Ophir and they did some crazy, severe crack on Post Office Wall that I couldn't even get off the ground on. That was the first time I had ever seen anyone use tape on their hands. Jeff went on and on about how severe the climb was, Scotty just smiled his sheepish grin and said "it was fun".
Talk about a motley crew. Gunnisons best and brightest. (l to r) John Pearson, Tom Pulaski, ?, Jimmy Newberry, Jack Paneck, Scotty Gilbert and Les Choy. Photo courtesy of the Jim Newberry collection.
