DescriptionHands down the best climbing on North Table Mountain can be had at the Winterfest Wall. Most of the routes are a good half rope length in height, but not longer. The area is roughly defined by the domain from Whole Lotta Drunk to the Sunset Arete. This blends seamlessly with the Risk Area to the North. Many of the routes are in the 5.10 to 5.11+ level, with a lone 5.12 route. Several excellent moderate lines have been installed below 5.10 in difficulty, and with close to 20 routes to choose from, one can spend a great day at the Winterfest. An added plus is that the wall faces due West and so gets great afternoon sun. A must do event at the Winterfest is to jump on the Sunset Arete, just as the sun goes down. The whole wall turns rust red with the Sunset Arete in stark relief and in gorgeous color. Getting ThereHike around the hill. Pass L of the Winter Warmer area, the broken fence, and in 200 yards or fewer you will arrive. The Winterfest Wall can be identified by the silhouette of Rebel Yell that obscures the rest of the North Table Mountain climbs to the North. It has a high density of routes in a domain quite separate from everything to the South. L->R:A. Dweeb, 9+,

The Suset Arete is just another example of Ken's "been there, done that, and it's great". This route fires up the North-most route in the Winterfest area. It takes the obvious sharp arete up some lower angle stuff to sta...[more] |
