Box Prarie Boulders and Climbs-Dragon Scales Rock

Description 

Mix of sun and shade located close to County road 44H. Rock is very solid granite, bring a wire brush to clean new routes. Pretty secluded. Short roped climbs with uncountable boulders. Exploration may reveal some good hard bouldering problems, but there are a lot of easy (V-O) or 5.5 to 5-10 slabby routes as well as some V-2's.

Getting There 

West from Loveland on US Highway 34 to County Road 27, turn north. Drive to Masonville and turn left at the "T" (junction of County Road 27 and 38E). Drive for 10 miles to county road 44H, turn left. Road turns to dirt. After 11 miles the Buckhorn Ranger Station will be on the left and Forest Service Road 100 will be on the right. Turn right on 100, and take the first right to a parking area not far from 44H. There is an old stone building with no roof and a small fenced in area. The boulders start just east of the parking and are east and north. Much potential with a lot of easy stuff, too. You can see Dragon Scales Rock ( named for its overlaping scale appearance) to the north ( immediate high point) and you can drive up FSR 100 for 50-60 yards to anothe pullout if you wish.
