This is a nice little picnic area along the North Fork of the Big Thompson River just downstream from the small town of Glen Haven. It was host to a few sport routes in the past, one of which remains intact with an anchor at the top.
Getting There
Head East out of Estes on Devil's Gulch road to Glen Haven. Continue past Glen Haven for another short mile until you see a picnic area on the right with obvious rock formations above.
On the way home from a day at Lumpy Ridge, we stopped to check this place out. I attempted the route listed as special introductory offer (.11a) in the Gillett book. I onsighted the crux roof only to discover that there was no hanger on the third bolt! As you can imagine, I was fairly upset and had to bail from bolt #2. I don’t know if any other hangers have been removed from the anchors or other routes. These routes are a little runout for sport routes, and missing hangers make them fairly dangerous. Proceed with caution.
