Description

If you have ever driven the section of I-70 between Vail and Beaver Creek, chances are you wondered if there are problems on the boulder at Dowd Junction. There certainly is, there are moderate high ball problems on all sides. High cruxes over good landings. Worthwhile.

Getting There

Exit off I-70 onto north bound US Hwy 24, this is the Minturn exit (driving away from Minturn). Drive 100 yards or so and park to access the pedestrian bridge. Cross pedestrian bridge and scamper down to the rock. Quality rock and high problems make this a worthwhile stop.

West face
V1 Center route** - Climb the center of the west face. Start in bowl feature and climb to the cobble block jug. Crux is high. Quality.
5.8 Crack* - Crux at top
V1 Corner - Climb the right side of corner; very high
VO Flake

South face
5.7 Southwest Corner - warm up
5.7 Face, good warm up
5.4 Down climb

East Face
V1 Southeast Corner*
V3 Interstate Contemplate** - Climb the center of the east face. Start left hand on toothy pocket, right on a crimp, do a big move to huge sloping shelf, mellow top out.
V3 Variation* - start L rounded block, R toothy pocket; up to round block finish good crimps

North Face
V2 North Side Loco.** - Obvious line on the back. Don't fall.
