This area is more popular for the bouldering, however, the cliffs above the bouldering area contain a pretty good selection of climbing. Most of the routes are trad, with some being a mixture of bolts and gear. Not very popular and rarely crowded.
Getting There
From Durango, drive west on 25th Street (Junction Creek Road). When the road forks, go right, past the lake (right side of road). When you get to the bouldering area, park and hike up steep slope to the cliff.
Turtle Lakes Bouldering Area is under review to be thinned because of the risk of forest fires. This would drastically change the appearance of the land. All we can do is take care and respect the land.
Turtle Lake Bouldering area has just been cleaned-up. On April 26th 2008 climber picked up trash and for the first time this popular area received a full clean-up of chalk and rubber. It's amazing how much this has change the grip of the rock. Please help us keep it clean. Brush of the holds after you are done climbing. Thanks to all the came out to help!
