Description

This is an organizational layer. Pumphouse Falls and 19th Hole aka 19th Fairway are at least 2 of the climbs located here, downhill from the Rigid Designator/Fang amphitheatre.

Pumphouse Falls is the main attraction here. Its access is one of the more straightforward for the Vail area. Further downhill is 19th Hole. Ice can form up further downhill, yet.

Evaluate avalanche conditions, since some of the drainages do slide.

Getting There

It is best to exit I-70 at the E Vail exit, about 100 miles W of Denver. Limited parking is available at the pumphouse which is found by going W after you exit the E Vail exit. Follow the road paralleling I-70, which crosses under I-70 and then about a mile further, there is a small building/outhouse, limited parking there. Parking problems abound if there is no room here, find legal parking or be rich.

RE: Pumphouse query - I think this climb is also referred to as the Ninth Hole? Anyway, I don't think it's in the database. It is no harder than grade 4 taking the easiest line, which is approximately left of center. Can be harder to the left or right of the main line, depending on conditions. A one rope rap will be a little short if I remember correctly, but it deposits you on fairly low angle terrain. But for toproping safely, I think you need two ropes.
