Description

This is a Durango area classic. There are usually several short pillars that lead to the main upper curtain/pillar. It is also possible to hike around the lower ice on the left to reach the upper curtain/pillar. The route can be done in one pitch, or belay in a cave below the final pillar. To descend, rappel from trees at the top of the route. This is a must do route when in condition.

Location

About 17 miles north of Durango the route should be easy to spot. Park on the west side of US Highway 550 and hike directly up to the climb. It is common to find a path beaten into the snow. Under normal conditions the approach takes about 1-1½ hours. The approach crosses private land so please be respectful.

Protection

Screws & webbing for raps.
