This rock rib is called the Dreadnought by Rossiter and the Rainbow by Roach. This long Flatiron rises out of the left of Skunk Canyon and arches gracefully for close to 1000 feet as it climbs up Dinosaur Mountain. It is [immediately] West of Achean Pronouncement.
The Southernmost part of the rock is directly behind (West) of the Backporch
This rock provides for a fun scramble along it's almost 1000ft ridge, some easy East face climbing and some sport routes on the West face.
Getting There
Depending on the route you want to climb, you may decided to hike up Skunk Canyon or the Porch Alley trail.
Skunk Canyon approach - Hike up the canyon, past the section where you have to scramble between some boulders. Continue up and the Dreadnought will be the second tier of rocks on your left.
Porch Alley trail- Hike up the Porch Alley (see Backporch description) and stay to the Left of the Backporch. As you pass it, look for the 300+ ft Southern edge of the East face of the Dreadnought which should be sitting in the trees a few yards from the Backporch's fierce West face.
This route follows the 1000 ft arete of the Dreadnought from Skunk Canyon all the way to its summit behind the Backporch. The views of the rocks on the North side of Skunk Canyon and the West face of the Backporch are hard to beat.Take the Skunk Canyon approach.
