On the FFA I was belayed by Charlie Fowler, who that day ran to his house in Eldo and grabbed a few pins for me to place on lead. One pin was placed down low and one marginal looking pin I placed under the roof, I down climbed from the roof, Charlie and I jumped on the pin, testing its sustainability, it wouldn't budge. I went for it and sent it that go, although we tested it on the ground, I really didn't feel comfortable should I have had to fall on it.

Yes, Eldo history is the best! It's great to see you posting on here Bob H. Ignore the disrepectful comments. Some just don't have a clue.

Yes! Keep telling the history, Bob H! You wouldn't know me if you saw me, but I was honored to share a rope with you once (the BRC of all places, way back in '96). It's always good to hear the real history from the ones that made it.

Bold leads like this are inspiring to all generations of climbers, not to mention the sweet pix! Keep them coming!

Jesus Christ people...it was meant as a joke, didn't you notice the "Sorry, I couldn't resist" disclaimer at the end. Anyway, I too am a fan of history having climbed with a certain Eldo FA'ist from the '70s quite a bit- I won't drop any names, but his initials are A.H., see if you supposed history buffs can decipher my cryptic message! Extra credit for not naming him but listing his most notable FAs in Eldo and elsewhere. DISCLAIMER: for you extremely uncreative minds out there- "see if you supposed history buffs can decipher my cryptic message!" is meant to be taken as a obvious joke, as it is in no way cryptic, it is in fact really easy to figure out.

Ok, I'll bite.. Without dropping a name. He was responsible for freeing the main roof on the Wisdom in 75, also made early attempts of the Psycho roof. Wunsch later freed it.

Also freed all but a few feet at the top of the NW face of Half Dome.

Keep on posting your stuff Bob. You're the real deal!
Beagle A.H. is a long time friend and personal hero of mine of mine as well. He is one of those folks that would pop up in strange places. I remember he was working in a "Burnstine Appleby" electronics store in Cynderella City shopping mall back in the late '70s. He got me into climbing the cracks between support posts below the parking structure of the mall. Turned out to be good crack training. One of his Eldo. routes "----spar" I posted an image (on MP) of A.H., Scott Woodruff, and myself hanging out in camp four back in the day. Thanks for bringing him up!
