This is actually on the Fairview High School building, buts it under CU 'cause that's the closest area. Walk around from the main entrance of the school to the South and find the Souther most point of the library. The corner here is climbable. A ledge runs horizontally at about 9' and 16'. The trick is to connect the ledges. Footholds non-existent. Vertical slats comprise the holds, but fishing around proves some are better than others. Tops out onto roof (only known way to get up) around 17 or 18' (but easy once feet get onto first ledge).
Protection
No pro - Bouldering problem. Crash pad highly recommended (no easy way off roof).
Fun route, though short and doesn't require endurance. I'm not sure about the rating, but its the trickiest problem I've ever done and took about a dozen attempts. Be discrete when climbing on the building.
This is a really great climb. Definitely a rewarding view from the top. It was harder than the rating, but it was rewarding once I got to the top. Whoever found this route is amazing!
dude, this route is awesome. anyone that flashes this route must be a stud, eh stephen? haha. actually, finding this route takes skill. good times. how about getting down? i climbed this and couldn't figure out how to get down. i was stuck up on the roof all weekend until the janitors got me down the following monday. any tips? i'm always doing that- climbing up stuff and then getting stuck. you know me.
Getting off of the roof would be tricky, but if you would rather not wait for the janitors (as nice as they are) then you might want to walk across the roof to the north side where the roof is shortest. If you're gutsy enough, and brought enough pads, then have someone else stack 'em in the grass on that side and jump.
During my time at Fairview, I got on top of the building in 4 or 5 different ways. There are several stemming/chimneying corners with awkward little roofs on the west side of the school. The best one involved stemming up a corner, traversing a couple moves on edges, rocking way up onto a big pipe sticking out of the wall, grabbing a pinch, and making a commiting reach for the lip. There was a crimpy lieback arete thing uphill from the library which might not exist anymore with the new construction. There used to be a really tricky (and very high-profile) stemming/chimneying problem right next to the front door, but that's gone now because of the new entrance. You can lieback the big cement things that stick out from the library windows. There was a unique problem that I was told was done but I couldn't do it. It faced north and was situated between the two gyms. It involved standing on door hinges and grabbing crappy pinches and some edges with a very committing dyno at the top (unless you're really tall). There were also a few projects I had that could go but were very tall and pretty hard. Pretty much any of the aretes can be climbed.
