Shane on Take the Termites Bowling

Description

A relatively newly bolted crag just east of Practice Rock. Somebody went bolt-crazy on this rock, but the result is very well protected routes. It's a steep dihedral; the east face is a solid slab, while the west face feels inverted and a little more crumbly. With a 60m rope, there's a great belay station with a nice rock as a bench.

To help reorganize this area, this crag is divided into the Main Crag & Lower Right Side.

Getting There

Park as for Practice Rock, ~8.1 mi W of Elephant Buttresses. Hike up & R from Practice Rock.

CONDITION REPORT

Watch out for the man-eating cactus at the bend in the trail just below the second tier. The same cactus claimed the hand of one friend and the butt of another. Nothing ruins a day of climbing like a handful of cactus!

Does anyone know about the new climbs above the Bowling Alley? Is there a new guidebook which covers these climbs? Any info much appreciated!
