This is a fragile alpine bouldering area and following Leave No Trace principles is important. Never stash pads. Do not alter landings, chip or glue holds, or remove or alter vegetation. Walk on hard surfaces such as boulders or established trails. Store your gear on boulders instead of dirt or vegetation. Clean up spilled chalk and tick marks and brush holds. Keep your presence low key and unobtrusive. Pack out everything you brought and anything else that shouldn't have been left there. RMNP rangers are very aware of the impact that bouldering has on this environment.
This boulder is the first one you encounter if you choose to rock hop across the lower "lake". It is on the south side of things and is recognized because of a fairly steep east face and a nice vertical/slabby north face. The landings here are generally good and the problems not too tall but be wary.
This boulder does not have the famous Potato Chip problem. That is located about 100 yards to the west on an obvious chalk-covered slightly overhung wall with a deep gully on its right.
Getting There
From the main trail, opt for rock-hopping around the right side of the first lake. After a few minutes you will see the boulder to the south.
The Potato Chip is on a totally different boulder/wall which should have its own write-up. I have no idea what the formation should be called but it is not the Warm-up Boulder. Also a suggestion about grades at RMNP: please don't use +/- on bouldering grades. Most of the ratings I have seen for PC are solid 7 so maybe the minus isn't appropriate anyway but in general it just confuses things. I would love MP to remove the +/- option for bouldering grades if possible.
Re: +/- grades, the vast majority of guidebooks and boulderers have never used that system in bouldering, not least because of the super-specific nature of some problems with reference to height, reach etc. Thus what seems like a V7- to you may be V7+ to me and so on. My hunch is that most boulderers don't care for that level of detail and at most may opt for a slash grade. If the Potato Chip feels V6 rate it V6. 50 plus 8a entries call it 7a+ or 7b so V7 should cover it.
The Font grade idea has merit except that in most cases a direct correspondence between it and V-grades is available making it redundant.
