I placed it up on the home page in the news section so that people didn't miss it since it was short notice.

I also get emails from people telling me that events aren't promoted well enough... Sometimes it is hard to please everyone.

I'd like to thank you for posting this announcement here. I realize it's a slippery slope as far as what's published and what isn't, and ultimately, an events forum (perhaps cleared by an admin) is the only reasonable compromise.

One thing is certain, that this forum would be much poorer without the presence of Arno Ilgner, Eli Helmuth, and other guides. These fine fellows make up for quantity with the quality of their contributions.

True enough, you can't make everyone happy nor should you try. I'll accept that I'm in the minority on this one. But I do take exception to Thom's comment that: "...this forum would be much poorer without the presence of Arno Ilgner.."

Interesting assertion. So I looked at what the gentleman in question has contributed. No areas, no routes, no photos, no comments, no points. Started 6 threads in forum, 4 of which were advertisements. Sorry, but I don't see it. Not trying to be a dick, just voicing my opinion.

Maybe I'm a sucker for self improvement stuff, but Arno's book (in the spirit of these two posts) has transformed my climbing in ways that I'm still assimilating. In the quality over quantity department, these two posts are priceless.

I think at issue here is how a small guy (a guide, etc.) can reasonably contribute to this forum and deservedly (in my humble opinion) draw attention to his business.

I'd rather err on the side of encouraging these folks post until they prove that they're abusing the "system".

I doubt they have much time to post. After all, they're not desk-jockeys like many of us, and sitting down at a keyboard after a hard day at the "office" isn't an easy thing to do for them. I'm for throwing them a bone to encourage their contributions, as long as they don't step way over the line.

We all have different thresholds for "purity", and I suppose mine is a bit more tolerant than yours is in this regard. I want to see these folks be able to continue plying their craft.
