Supporting local businesses is a must, but I expect decent customer service. Hopefully the new iteration of Mountain Shop will be more on point than before in this regard.

I was not aware that they had sub par service. Maybe Sam just had a bad experiance or a dud employee. I have always heard great things about how Seth and crew take care of everyone. Especially like Sam said, the local shop supporters. Those are what make shops like this able to stay around. Otherwise everyone would have to bend over at REI. Now go there next Saturday and buy some stuff.

Always had great customer service when I went there. Nice little shop. Good guys, sound knowledge, not too pushy.

Good Luck on your new venture!

I'm excited to see this small business getting another chance at success in the Fort Collins/Northern Colorado area. While I would love to be at the re-opening on April 5th, I will be attending the Piano Boulders Trail Day. The NCCC (Northern Colorado Climbing Coalition) is looking for volunteers, for more information, follow this link.

Good to hear and about time. I hope the crew will be as good as the last Mountain Shop. I have missed shopping were the people really understand the gear. Seth was great to talk about climbing, climbs and he used the gear.

DAMN IT JOHN! You beat me to my own post, I'm going to get fired before the shop even opens! (kidding of course, and thank you for being on top of things). For those of you that missed my post, (which I just submitted), it is true, we will be opening again.

Leo, John, Ben, Frances, feel free to edit, or combine this thread with the one I just started if necessary.

Here is the reiteration.

First, I'd like to thanks everyone that posted last summer about their fond memories of the old Mountain Shop, it was really hard for me to let go of something I put so much time in to.

8 months have passed and a local couple (Mike and Heather McKelligott) have purchased the shop to continue its legacy. The new location will be in Old Town Fort Collins, 172 N. College Ave., just North of the Town Pump and the Bean Cycle Coffee Shop.

For those of you that are concerned things will change too much, and it won't be the same old shop, relax, you'll still be forced to look at my sorry mug when you walk in the door, since I will be managing the shop again. (Which means bigger and better climbing dept.!!)

I invite everyone who will be in, or around the Fort, on April 5th to stop by our GRAND RE-OPENING DAY. Of course, there will be free SWAG from B.D., Excalibur, Osprey, Quicksilver (yes quicksilver), La Sportiva, 510, Prana, Kuhl, Chaco, and a host of others.

Thanks to all the customers that supported the Mountain Shop when we were located on Laurel, and Mason, I hope to see you all again at the new location.

Sam, if you had any issues at the old shop definitely come by and let me know your grievances, I want to make sure customer service at the new shop is on point! This goes for everyone, I'm there all day, everyday, until our grand opening feel free to stop in and say hello, Mike and I could use the break.

Thanks again,

Great to hear it! Always was the best shop in town. Wish I could make it to the grand opening (or at all for that matter)and support you guys but I'm stuck here in Michigan for while. Good luck Seth and gang.

Great news! I'm not a big fan of buying on-line or driving to Neptune. Always had great customer service at MS.
Hey Josh, good stuff going on at SD!

Hey Congrats you guys. If the weather is bad tomorrow I might drive up. I started working at the original Mountain Shop in 1974 when it was still in the alley off of Laurel, then later when it moved into its location on Laurel. I worked there full time through the late seventies then part time whenever I needed work and Phil was feeling benevolent.

Best of luck to you: there's still a great future for small local shops that stay focused on the sports and the customers.
