Rockies Win!
Submitted By: John McNamee on Oct 2, 2007
I know, it's not climbing news and I'll get flamed for it, but the game tonight and the run over the last month has been incredible. Down 6-8 in the 13th innings they came back to win to 9-8 against all time saves leaver Treveor Hoffman. They now head into the post season and every team must be scratching their head and wondering how to deal with them.
Way to go Rockies!

| This is the most awesome rock climbing related news. The turning of the different climbing seasons seems to lend itself particular well to baseball, and I have listened to so many games on the way home from a day on the big stone on 850 KOA. This is the best send of the entire year… Go Rockies! |

| Yeah that game last night was amazing. I think they will struggle past the phillies but who know if they will make it. |
By George Bell From: Boulder, CO Oct 2, 2007
| Bob, I wouldn't bet against a team that has won the last 14/15 !! Go Rockies! |
By Jeff Gustafson Oct 2, 2007
| Against the Phillies they have a chance. Anyone else.... probably not... |

| My gut feeling is that Phillie fans will feel more pain this week. So being used to it...you'll be shaking your heads, just like Padre fans were doing last night. |

| Sour Grapes time! :0P :0P :0P :0P :0P
Ha ha, that was fun. But given the Padres only had to win one of two in Milwaukee to clinch and went on to lose three straight (including to CO)they really didn't deserve to go to the playoffs.
For that, and also as a former thin air breather from the Springs, Go Rockies!!! |

| Bob D'Antonio I know pain and disappointment.
San Diego sports fans do not feel your pain Bob. And Bill, you turncoat you! LOL |
By Micah Isaac From: Boulder, CO Oct 2, 2007
| the fair weather fans have spoken! jk (well kinda). don't tell me you've been a fan for years and blah blah blah. This town gets excited over whichever sports team is doing well, and you never hear a thing about supporting the team throughout the year. At least I'm getting a break from hearing about the broncos:P |

| Amazing game & streak!!! It's been a long time since the Blake Street Bombers gave us reason to hope. Remember EY's 1st at bat?
It was amazing sitting in Invesco at Mile High listening to the buzz of folks talking Rockies today. Wow! |

| Everyone is a Rockies fan over night, What the hell does a boring ass game like baseball have to do with climbing.
Shouldn't you all be on some ESPN forum instead spraying about a team that has absolutely nothing to do with your life, but because the team is winning you are all on the band wagon like you have been following the team forever or something.
That was a sweet game though, so cool how they got past the goalie at the last minute and kicked that extra point at the buzzer. |
By Buff Johnson From: Coniferous, CO Oct 7, 2007
| or some just don't get it until you sit through freezing drizzle watching your Rockos get the crap beat out of them year in and out hoping one day they would at least show up & have a break even season.
It's not so much a bandwagon as it is a Marrakesh Express. |

| What's wrong with having a little home team support, eh? Everyone here was just giving some props to the incredible challenge that the rocks were able to step up to. As with any sport, it's about the spirit right? It's been fun to watch no matter what the outcome, and I hope we all can enjoy the degree of hard work all these teams have put into making it to the playoffs as they take it to the field! |

| I'm looking forward to watching the D-backs shiver on Sundays game. It's shaping up to be a cool, rainy day :) Go Rockies! Rocktober is definitely fitting this year, in more ways than one. Take a day off mid-week, go to Lumpy and enjoy. |

By Mike Lane From: Centennial, CO Oct 12, 2007
| This a good time to listen to Jim Rome (10 to 1 on AM950), he's giving the Rox tons of love. He's equating them with the old Yankees that won 4 or 5 Series in a row. |
By Ian Wolfe From: Boston, MA Oct 12, 2007
| To equate them to the Yankees they have to beat the Red Sox first....yeah.....not gonna happen.
I'm all for a Sox-Rox World series though :-) |

| We're doing it Peter we might go the World Series!!!!!!! :-o |

| Can someone check my closet? I think I may need another broom with all the sweeping going on.
Whichever fans want to see this from the sidelines, groovy; they've got to be the hottest team to have such a streak at this point in any given season in the entire history of baseball. |
By Jeff Gustafson Oct 15, 2007
| I thought they wouldn't go anywhere beyond the Phillies but now... can you say "destiny"? |
By whipplejw From: Broomfield, CO Oct 16, 2007
| Rocks in the Series! Only team EVER to win their first 7 postseason games. For those who like a concrete example, that means they just one-upped the '76 Big Red Machine. Hell of a qualification. Whoever comes in from the AL better be ready.
Edit: Whoops. The Reds did win seven in a row in '76. Whatever, that ain't bad company. |
By Mike Lane From: Centennial, CO Oct 16, 2007
| I don't like the 8 days off. Maybe they pay the D-backs or Phillies to hang out here for a week and keep getting their asses kicked, just for the practice. Ian Wolfe: you might be right about the Rox beating the Sox not happening since the Indians are going to do it instead. |
By John McNamee Administrator From: Littleton, CO Oct 16, 2007
| I wish the world series started tomorrow. The week off is a long time! |
By Ian Wolfe From: Boston, MA Oct 22, 2007
| Mike Lane: uhh....what's that? Can you say riots in Boston? Oh DAMN! The Sox are in the World Series :-)
Unfortunately for us college students, the Boston Police have gotten way way too good at riot control, and kept the crowd from reaching critical density by blocking off Fenway Park and dividing the streets up into separate sections. Three years ago was way more fun.
Honestly, I don't know what to do now though. If I root for the Sox, I feel like I'm betraying where I'm from. If I root for the Rockies, I'm betraying the team I actually support and care about for the rest of the year. If I don't root for either, and just enjoy the game, my friends give me sh*t for being a panzy and not picking a team...
At this point I'm leaning toward option 3... |

By Buff Johnson From: Coniferous, CO Oct 25, 2007
| For a team that wasn't even suppose to make the playoffs; I'd say so what? The streak is over, big deal. I'm waiting to watch the Sox pull their typical cho... I mean, their wonderful effort to making it to runner-up. After all, it's their series to lose ;) |
