I'm going to be in Coeur D'alene this weekend... is Tubbs Hill worth bringing shoes/pad for a quick bouldering/beach sessions for the family?

Thanks
Andy

Yeah, you could find something, but it's not great. There's one really sweet looking overhand (V5 maybe) that is above the water. It's like 20 feet tall and hard to miss. A lot of the better problems are under water right now. I second Q'emlin park at post falls. Probably a 10 minute drive from CDA.

Is the bouldering at Post Falls? Toddler friendly?

Post Falls (Q'Emlin) is a very kid-friendly crag with lots of excellent sport climbing and a bit of bouldering. I think you'll find the sport climbing much more worthwile, though. If you'd like, I might be able to show you around, as I'll be off this weekend and climbing with the kids. My daughters(8 and 10) are pretty good at entertaining younger kids at the crag. let me know.

The most kid friendly spot is the Garden Wall. Eat Your Roofage(10c), Rocky (10b), Bullwinkle(10?) and Fearless Leader (11c), are all good. There are 2 very hard 11's on either side of Fearless and another on an arete further left.

Post Wall is also kid friendly, with lots of 9's and easy 10's. Expect all the 5.10's and below to be soft, especially if you use the new guide.

Death Fall Wall has a few of the best harder climbs at the crag, Not quite as good for toddlers, but definitely possible. Don't miss Dolly Parton (10b), Jude(11a) and Death Fall (11d). The 12's on this wall are supposed to be really good, but I'm not a 5.12 climber yet, so I don't know.

The approach is just a few minutes for all but the 5th canyon climbs and the outlaw wall.

Hope your visit is good. feel free to call with questions.

Andy,
Did ya find something to do?

Watched a friend race the Ironman, the main reason for my visit. And had a nice walk with the kids at Tubbs Hill. If there was any climbing, it was under water!

That would sum-up the bouldering at Tubbs Hill. If you ever make it back this way and would like a tour, drop me a line.

surprised Tubbs isn't an area in the mprjct db. I love me the Tubbs low ball problems and questionable rock. get sum!

West, South/West slope has some legit rock. Lace dem boots up and look around.

Well, 6 years late I am happy to say that Tubbs Hill has a mountain project page now. 35 routes so far, and only adding more. If anyone has info on FA's or routes in general feel free to email me, or just put it on MP.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
