I saw this in an ad in R&I. Has anyone seen one of these in the wild?
I'm not even sure what to think about this. It seems wrong...

Looks like the site was originally written in a non-English language then run through the Google translator:

"Climbird is climbing assistance device to safe climbing invented to install metal rings just as Carabiner , cam, nut or hook at the target spot where is long way from hands when climber could not set a belayer at near location or you may be in danger to climbing caused by setting so that severe injury or risk of life is attended due to plunge. This is the world's first invention patent product designed to bring it with very light and small size when you climbs a rock wall."

I'm not even sure what country they are in:
Climbird, 26, Road 8, Beopdae-road, Nam-gu, Ulsan-city

Whew, thanks for posting that! I was really wondering what climbird is, but the description cleared it right up.

Looks like a telescoping stick clip that can be used for cams and nuts, and for threading the rope. Basically, a multi-functional stick clip.

I imagine it could be useful for the same reasons people use a stick clip, and I suppose it could be used as a tool for extending your reach on trad climbs and clean aid climbs as well.

I don't see myself ever really needing one, but it's fun to see people invent stuff like this.

The Engrish on the web site is very entertaining.

Would never trust a nut or ball nut placement made with a stick. Cams.... Maybe.

If you are going to use this just aid climb everything. Anything to make money I guess. Some poor suckers will buy it though.

If you watch the youtube video

there is some very suspect stuff demonstrated.

-clipping two non-locking biners together.
-slinging a sappling 4 feet from its trunk
-daisy chain to a step on an aider
