Climbing/other suggestions Park City

Would love to hear climbing or other suggestions on things to do around Park City. I will be visiting the first week of July with my family (wife, son 3.5 years, daughter 6 months and mom). Hoping to climb 2-3 days and spend some time enjoying the area with the family.

For climbing would love suggestions for longer moderate multi-pitch to do with the wife and/or easy cragging with kids.

Thanks!

Uintas or drop down to SLC. There's really no climbing in/near Park City, per se.

Yep look up the uintas on here or big and little cottonwood. The search feature should be able to help you pic out some good routes. Just realize the north side of little cottonwood(south facing) will be roasting in the sun most of the day.

As for the "other suggestions" I'd recommend
Single track with the family is way cool fun

Park City supports a great infrastructure of bike trails.

See: Parley's Canyon Climbs closer than BCC and LCC and you can set up top ropes for the kiddies.

You saw the age of their kids?

I wouldn't recommend Parleys as little kid friendly. Not the approach, the hang, or the routes. Also gets a fair bit toasty in the summer with not much escape from the heat.

If the creek is down in BCC, Beachball is nice.

Mountain biking in PC and Deer Valley is a super idear!

Great! Thanks for the responses so far. I sorta new that there was no climbing in Park City and was planning on LCC and or BCC. Any routes suggestions anyone would care to make ie can't miss this one? Or shady areas of LCC? Or shady close by areas in general?

Thanks!

Pentapitch in LCC is a north facing moderate classic. Industrial wall next to Pentapitch is great sport-cragging. Plan on early starts and finishes though or you'll cook. Uintas for all day cragging

Hey Jeff,
The real question is, 'How old are your kids and what kind of climbing experience do they have?'

Coming from Atlanta, right? I can guess you've probably taken them to Sandrock or something like that?

Small kids:
Ferguson might be a nice place to take them as there is a creek and loads of moderate, shorter routes. Its a little confusing at first but relatively easy to figure out.
Second the Beachball crag in BCC per Brian's suggestion. Also in the evening the Dam Wall at Storm Mountain in BCC has evening shade and is near the creek. There is a little east facing wall that has a few .6's and .7's right by the ridge climb.

If your kids are 10 and up:
Pentapitch is kind of a walk for small kids - and across a boulderfield. My younger kids would complain a lot about it but my older kids could be sold on it.
The Industrial wall is just above and in a cool, shady creek in the evenings.
If you have helmets for the kids and they can climb .9 - 10, the Melting Mud Wall at Hellgate in LCC is a nice option - mostly because its cooler and has a short approach. But rockfall does happen there. If you need extra helmets contact me and I can loan a few.

Steorts Ridge in BCC is a great little 3-pitch 5.6 that gets evening shade. It would be super fun with the right kid.

Check out dogwood in bcc too. Easy approach, top rope(or easy lead) on moderates, and you can belay with your feet in the water. And if you get bored there's .11 through a .13 on the east side for ya. There always seems to be families there, especially when I'm trying to send something :)

Ok...sounds like in LCC Pentapitch, Coal Pit Buttress, etc (stuff on the maybe shady side).. BCC - Dogwood and Beachball Crag maybe Dam Wall (storm mtn), Steorts Ridge. Uintas. Maybe Ferguson Canyon. Ride bikes, eat ice cream...and...

You're gonna die...

One last question...any recommendations for Uintas?

Thanks!

For little kids, the Mosquito Wall would be hard to beat in the Uintahs.

I wouldn't bring little kids anywhere near Melting Mud - Clay is much braver than I am. Also agree Parleys is an awful idea. Pentapitch routes are long and people drop stuff there a lot.

I don't think LCC is especially kid friendly - Lisa Falls would be the only place i'd really consider. BCC is much better - Beachball is great for that. Storm Mountain area in general is great. Loads of easy climbing, shade easy to chase, and lots of places to set up TRs on random 5.easy rock that won't be in anyone else's way.

Weather is looking like it'll be surface of the sun hot so Uintahs will be the ticket.

Jeff,

Hit me up when you're in Park City. I can clue you in quick, plus I may be available to show you around a bit.
