Me!

Hey y'all out there in cyber-climberdom,
I'm a really tall guy. I'm 6'5" (maybe 6", who knows, who cares) . I have a Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight and it's just a little bit to short. I don't like my feet hitting the roof when I sleep. Any recommendations on some lighter weight (doesn't have to be ultralight) and relatively inexpensive (around $200) 2 person tents for someone of my altitude?

What happens when you:
1) have nothing to do
2) own a sharp knife
3) have a large lime
4) own a patient cat
5) drink too much tequila
6) and it's football season?

(An e-mail I received; just know that no cat was harmed in the carving of this lime. Dogs Rule!!)

try camp coleman -- they cater to the redneck yacht clubbed, big footed, doggie doored dufussess like me. Coolers & stoves are sold separately.

Thanks, but perhaps something a little more hardcore?? I plan on going to Campmor in a few weeks and trying out tents... maybe my price is to low if coleman is the only response I get?

200 isn't that unreasonable if your looking 3 season. Which begs the question what will you be using it for. Off hand you may want to look at a 2.5 person tent which are often times longer.

couldnt you just cut the end off, that your feet are hitting?
I cant remember the last time I used a tent, tarp on the ground, bag on top of that, inside I go.

I'm 6'4" and I have a Sierra Designs Alpha, which I bought specifically for the length. I've got a couple inches to spare when fully stretched out. It is a 4 season, 3 person tent, so it might be a little heavier and more than you're looking to spend($240 with REI's 20% off).

However, I've had it for three years and its been pitched for about 150 days and shows hardly any wear. It has also held up to a couple good snow dumps where the extra burliness and ability to close up vents has been crucial.

If you don't need a free standing tent, MSR makes this ultralight one that erect with poles, and its about 11 feet long. Its pretty sweet but I forgot the name.

Cheers
Evan

Hey y'all,
yes, I am looking for a 3 season. Although stand alone is prefered I think, I can go either way.

This is all super helpful, THANK YOU!

I'm a little shorter than you (6'2"), but when I bought a tent a few years ago I ran into the same problem. I was looking for lightweight stuff as I primarilly use it for backpacking, but all the lightweight tents I found were too stinkin' short. I wound up getting a Sierra Designs Meteor Light and it's been great. Little heavier that the others I was looking at, but I figure I can cart around an extra pound or two. It's a three season tent, but it might be a bit out of your price range. I don't remember how much I paid for it though...
