I swore off rope bags a few years ago. Traditional rope bags arent big enough to carry a rack, water shoes, etc; and Im too cheap to fork over the cash for really nice crag pack. This week I finally grew tired of carrying around my ghetto rope tarp inside my pack and I began the search for the ultimate rope bag. here were my requirements:
Cheap, Durable, Simple, and Thin enough to fit inside my regular pack.
Thanks to the good people at Wilderness Exchange, I found this bluewater bag for $15!. Blue Water Light and Fast
It seemed to meet all of the requirements, but my first use proved the tarp was a little too small (only 24"x36"). 30 minutes on the sewing machine remedied that problem. The bag now sports a 4 foot round tarp with a drawstring closure.
Original Tarp Size = 24x36 = Too Small New Tarp Size ~ 48" round Submitted By: darin on Sep 21, 2009
Plenty of room on the new tarp Submitted By: darin on Sep 21, 2009
When moving on to the next route, you can pull on the strings and roll it up. I love it. Its much faster and easier than the conventional burrito rolling technique.
Easy drawstring pulls in the edges rather than folding burrito style. The drawsting cord is secure and super fast. Submitted By: darin on Sep 21, 2009
packs down to original size. Submitted By: darin on Sep 21, 2009
The total cost was close to $20 for the bag and fabric. Im really psyched about the drawstring add and I think this bag is going to rock pretty hard at the crags. Hope you guys like it.
