Trad gumby tries to go sport on the Lion King, January, 2007

So I gather the pro is somewhat better for wall hauling. How do they compare for TR soloing? Any reason other than cost to go with the mini?

You might want to talk to one of the admins about this (Josh Janes) because I think he recently did a little testing between these two devices and a third. I happen to own both of these devices but have only used them for hauling. The mini is great for hauling small loads (ie wall-in-day scenario). The Pro is great because you can clip it to your anchor and then put the rope through it; this ability greatly reduces your chances of dropping the device.

Hope that little bit of info helps.

A friend of mine uses the mini to back up her jugs when ascending a fixed line. Personally, I wouldn't use the mini as a sole attachment if I had a choice, and certainly not without a backup knot, TR or otherwise.

Noah's first rope...kinda.

The mini allows you to use a piece of shock cord to hold the device up around your belly when TR soloing, which you couldn't (wouldn't want to) with a Pro. The pro is heavier and get's in the way hanging down below your belay loop ( especially when you use a carab in the bottom hole) but it does self feed nicely.

I wouldn't want to do more than a two dayer hauling with the mini, as the difference in pulley size really makes a difference with a heavy load.

So Mini for TR soloing, Pro for big walling.
