| Hey All, I keep hearing that some plastic water bottles are not safe and emit plastics into the water with time. Does anyone have any reliable/credible research resources on which plastics are safe and which ones are not? I want to get rid ow whatever water bottles are killing me!!! Thanks! Girasol | |

| Check out this post.

The post shows a pretty convincing study on the release of BPA, a thyroid disrupting chemical, in polycarbonate plastic bottles (nalgenes and other #7 plastic bottles).
in terms of just being safe with plastics, a simple rule is to keep liquids cold. bring along a stainless steel mug for coffee, tea, etc. also, i've found that food-grade high-density polyethylene (HDPE) works pretty well for water bottles in terms of not leaching.
in the end, you do what you can with what you got. steel is obviously the safest, but we're all going to keep using nalgenes because they're cheap and light weight. i hope this info helps. | |
